in this post I will quickly describe how project managers are planning the process groups. This subject was deeply described in the book: PMP Exam Prep (4th Edition) by Rita Mulcahy

In order to manage and plan a successful project conducted for the given organization the project management teams use the planning process group as well as its constituent processes and interactions. This group is really helpful as far as gathering information with various levels of completeness and accurateness is concerned. Project management plan is developed by the planning process. The project’s  scope, costs , activities which take place in the project and schedule are also matured, defined and identified by these processes.
